Advantages of Valeo Diaphragm Clutches over Spring Coil type in the Heavy Commercial Trucks
- The overall advantages generally claimed in favor of the diaphragm spring clutch, as against to the coil type are as below:
- The higher load-carrying capacity of the diaphragm spring makes it a more compact and lighter construction
- Lesser Pedal effort (15-18kg in Coil Spring whereas 10-12kg in Diaphragm) for the same torque transmitting ability of the clutch.
- The torque-transmitting ability can be maintained better as the liners goes thinner in service – No frequent adjustments required
- The torque-transmitting ability is also less affected by high engine speeds when coil springs can bow and reduce their load.(Slipping)
- It readily lends itself to the drive strap of the pressure plate for greater mechanical efficiency and better retention of balance.
- Good Mileage can be achieved in Diaphragm Clutch (50 to 55kms more per 100 liters)
