The double dry clutch is more efficient than an automatic gearbox or a double wet clutch, due to the following:
- The clutch plates are dry instead of being immersed in an oil bath, hydraulic pump not required
- Use of electro-mechanical rather than hydraulic actuators which is more efficient and increases the comfort of the driver.
- The system results in an approximately 10% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with an automatic gearbox and an approximately 4% reduction compared with a wet friction double clutch gearbox.
- Reliability is ensured by the careful choice of technologies that minimize the number of double clutch components, the use of clutch plates with bonded linings and the wear adjustment mechanism integrated in each actuator.
- The double dry clutch can be easily adapted to a large number of gearboxes
