<h2>What Freewheel Pulleys Do</h2>
Freewheel pulleys are essential components of the alternator and play a critical role in ensuring the longevity and efficiency of a vehicle’s belt drive, including the belt and the tensioner.
 
The primary function of the freewheel pulley is to decouple the alternator from the crankshaft, thereby reducing stress on the belt drive system and enabling smoother engine operation.
By allowing the alternator rotor to spin freely when the engine slows down or stops, the freewheel pulley improves efficiency of the belt system and avoids belt flutter.
 
Its three primary benefits can be described as:
Reduced vibrations and noise
Increased lifespan of the alternator, belt, and tensioner
Enhanced overall engine operation
 
<h2>Two Types of Freewheel Pulleys</h2>
Valeo’s Overrunning Alternator Pulley (OAP) and Overrunning Alternator Decoupler (OAD) are both examples of essential components of the complete alternator system.
 
These two freewheel pulleys, however, differ in their specifications and characteristics:
OAP (Overrunning Alternator Pulley): Spins freely in one direction and immediately locks in the opposite direction.
OAD (Overrunning Alternator Decoupler): Rotates freely in one direction and offers a “spring-like” resistance in the other direction.
 
Both consist of a pulley with an outer diameter suitable for a poly-V belt (drive), a one-way clutch unit with bearing supports, an inner ring, two seals, and a plastic end cover.

New Valeo Products and Award at Rematec 2025

<h1>Winner of Public Choice Award</h1>
From April 8 to 10, 2025, Valeo took part in Rematec, the world's largest automotive remanufacturing exhibition, held at RAI Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In addition to launching new parts, Valeo won the Public Choice Award for Best Reman, after emerging as the clear winner with a total of 2,057 votes.
The public’s choice award was fully supported by the 2025 Rematec jury, who recognized Valeo as both “a major automotive parts manufacturer and a key player in the aftermarket.” 
 
<h2>Partnering with Industry Leaders on New Products</h2>
Valeo is now extending its offer to include the remanufacturing of high voltage and electronic parts. 
During the week, Valeo presented what is one of the largest ranges of remanufactured products on the market. This included launching three new high-tech reman parts:
In collaboration with Stellantis, Valeo is launching in the first semester of 2025 a remanufactured LED headlamp—the first of its kind from Valeo—along with a display screen developed at Valeo’s Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers, France.
Partnering with The Remakers, Valeo will launch in the second half of 2025 a brand new remanufactured inverter for the Renault Zoe.
Remanufacturing innovations such as these align with a new era of increased electronics in modern vehicles. 
In 2024, Valeo also launched on the independent aftermarket a reman pneumatic concentric actuator for commercial vehicles, and in 2025, Valeo will be launching the DQ250 Double Wet Clutch (DWC) covering millions of vehicles.
 
<h2>Valeo Reman, Good to Better Preserve Resources</h2>
Reman is one of Valeo's key circular initiatives for the aftermarket, and is part of the 'I Care for the Planet' program—Valeo’s commitment to progressively reducing the environmental impact of the automotive aftermarket.
By reusing materials, Valeo’s remanufacturing limits new resource extraction and industrial waste. 
At Valeo, remanufactured products include up to 80% of reused materials. With 55 million tonnes of electronic waste generated every year, discarding electronic and electrical parts because of a single faulty component is both wasteful and environmentally unsustainable. 
In the words of Christophe Le Ligné, Valeo Group R&amp;D VP and Light CTO:
“At Valeo, we are deeply committed to remanufacturing. Our ambition is to double the number of remanufactured products to 2 million by 2030, and, at the same time, we are expanding our range to offer more electric and electronic products. This major milestone will be achieved through our ability at building strong partnerships within our ecosystem, to deliver remanufactured high-tech products.”
 
<h2>Valeo Reman, as Good as New</h2>
Every manufactured part undergoes the same processes as new ones:
<ul><li>Each collected part is cleaned and disassembled</li>
	<li>Components are individually controlled and then repaired or replaced if needed</li>
	<li>The product is reassembled and tested to stringent automotive standards</li>

<h2>Expanding and Promoting Circular Economy in the Aftermarket</h2>
Valeo’s 40+ years’ experience in remanufacturing electrical and mechanical products includes starters and alternators, compressors, brake calipers, DMF, heavy duty clutches and more recently front camera for passenger cars and even eMotors and Batteries for Ebikes.
Valeo offers online tutorials via its Valeo Tech Academy, including three new interactive modules for workshops.

Valeo announces that its cutting-edge chiller—, crucial for battery thermal management in electric and hybrid vehicles—, is available for the most popular electric vehicle in Europe, the VW ID.3. Additionally, the plan is to launch four new chillers by the second quarter of 2025 designed for Hyundai models like the Ioniq, Kona, and Tucson, as well as the Kia Niro.
Valeo is also expanding its offer for electric and hybrid vehicles with five new electric driven compressors designed specifically to fit the latest "eTech" platform from Renault. This includes the Kadjar, Scenic, Captur, Arkana models, as well as the highly popular Tesla Model 3 and some applications from Kia and Hyundai.

<h2>Oil Pumps &amp; 48V Technology</h2>
In July, Valeo launched electric oil pumps for popular models such as the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
Furthermore, the 48V DC-DC converter references 597202 and 597203, suitable for the Fiat 500, Peugeot 208, Citroen C5, and many other applications, will be launched during the first quarter of 2025. 
As 48V technology is mentioned, it’s important to note that Valeo also offers a wide range of 48V iBSG systems. This is crucial as the car park is primarily evolving through mild hybrid vehicles.
 
<h2>Brake Pads, Cables, and Mobile Chargers</h2>
With 222 references and 92% electric and hybrid vehicle coverage, Valeo’s new brake pads range will account for over 15 million European vehicles. The e-performance brake pads use soft friction materials composed of carbons and ceramics that absorb noise and vibrations made during braking.
Lastly, Valeo offers a range of cables and mobile chargers for electric and hybrid vehicles, featuring 12 charging cable references and 15 mobile charger references in various lengths and charging speeds. They are fully compatible with all rechargeable vehicles.

<h2>The Future is Getting Brighter</h2>
By 2030, 93% of all new cars will include a form of electrification and one-third of the European car parc will consist of electrified vehicles (either fully electric or hybrid).
 
This is good news. Electrification is emerging as the most viable, affordable, and energy-efficient solution to reducing the carbon footprint of the automotive industry, which currently stands at about 18% of global CO2 emissions.
 
<h2>Levels of Electrification</h2>
When discussing “electrification,” many immediately think of fully electric vehicles, but it encompasses much, much more.
 
The current and future car parcs include multiple levels of electrification: low-voltage systems like 48V mild hybrids (combining small electric motors with internal combustion engines for improved fuel efficiency), high-voltage systems like 400V and 800V for both full and plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.

As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, the number of vehicles on the road continues to grow. According to Frost &amp; Sullivan’s report “European PHEV/BEV Aftermarket Growth Opportunities”, by 2030, 84% of vehicles made in Europe will be electrified and heading towards either 48V or fully electric.

While combustion engines are noisy and a bumpy ride, drivers of electric vehicles are able to get the exact driving experience everyone longs for—silent and comfortable. They also get peace of mind. Valeo’s E-performance brake pads use soft friction materials – composed of carbons and ceramics – which absorb noise and vibrations made during braking.
 
Because of these soft materials, 20-25% less brake dust is produced each time the brake is applied, and the brake pads last longer, helping to avoid vibrations in the steering wheel.

	<li aria-level="1">Valeo Ineez™ Air Charging: For the first time, Valeo presented its wireless charging solution, the first and only one to use an ultra low operating frequency, around 3kHz, offering a lighter, simpler, and safer charging experience.</li>
	<li aria-level="1">Zeekr x Valeo: The latest Zeekr model was also presented at Valeo’s booths. Equipped with a 15 mm high Valeo Thinbilite bifunction front lighting module and two digital panels comprising more than 1,700 LEDs, it offers users a unique, personalized and interactive lighting experience and redefines the rules of electric vehicle design.</li>
	<li aria-level="1">Valeo x BMW: Valeo presented its solution for teleoperation from a cockpit with high reliability. Visitors were able to drive a BMW Series iX located on the BMW booth while remaining at Valeo’s booth.</li>

<h2>A New Year’s Resolution</h2>
In the EU, where heavy duty commercial vehicles account for almost 80% of land freight transport – equal to almost 25% of the transport sector’s CO2 emissions – it’s more important than ever to find ways to cut waste and emissions.
From 1st of January, 2024, Valeo is implementing its core deposit scheme for Reman CV Clutch Kits in Europe. This comes as part of Valeo’s wider goal of accelerating the circular economy and thereby consuming as few new raw materials as possible.

Fully optimizing the consumption of resources is an automotive aim in which Valeo is not alone. The whole road freight industry, from manufacturers to haulers, is committed to a more sustainable transport system.
Remanufacturing is one of the central pillars of Valeo’s 4R strategy, along with Recycle, Repair, and Robust design. It is also an integral part of Valeo’s multifaceted approach to sustainability: I Care 4 the Planet.
The core deposit scheme falls into both sustainability approaches and has simplicity at its core. The aim is to recover as many CV clutch kit cores from the market as possible in order to fuel Valeo’s remanufacturing production lines.
In a nutshell, the core deposit is a simple circular exchange system:

Valeo’s CV core deposit system has been made to be simply understood, with only 3 core bands (T, U, V) and 2 different costs (100€ or 200€), as in the table below:

<h2>Reverse Logistics System</h2>
Using a reverse logistics system that is quick and seamless, Valeo makes things easy for distributors, with a quick four week turnaround from collection pick-up to sorting report.
All that workshops need to do once the repair is completed is recover the cores, place them in the Valeo box, and then send them back to the distributor. The distributor stores them in a safe and dry place while Valeo ensures the reverse logistics from the collection of the cores to the deposit refund for all accepted cores.

Putting Down a Deposit on Our Future</h2>
To get the ball rolling along the distribution chain, Valeo is implementing an extensive support plan, augmented by a massive promotional programme during the first semester of 2024.

<h2>ProDays: France’s bicycle trade show</h2>
The ProDays trade show is a key event for the French bicycle industry, providing a unique opportunity for brands as well as independent and chain shops to meet and exchange ideas.
Over three days, more than 5,000 professionals came to the Paris Exhibition Center, Porte de Versailles, to meet close to 300 exhibitors, representing a total of nearly 1,200 brands for equipment and accessories.
 
For the third year in a row, Valeo, a world leader in car electrification and transmissions, presented Valeo Cyclee™, its revolutionary system for electric bikes as well as its aftersales service dedicated to bike shops.

The ProDays trade show continues to confirm the growing interest in electrically assisted bikes, a market in which Valeo intends to become a significant player in the coming years.
Incorporating the first motor in the world to be equipped with an integrated automatic gearbox, Valeo Cyclee™ offers a revolutionary electric bike experience, which consists of four components:
<ul><li aria-level="1">A motor unit assembled in France. The electric assistance is in the pedal assembly, with a 48V motor and integrated adaptive gearbox (7 speeds), delivering an unprecedented torque of up to 130 Nm.</li>
	<li aria-level="1">A range of batteries for autonomy.</li>
	<li aria-level="1">A display screen, allowing riders to select the assistance mode and view essential information about their e-bike.</li>

<h2>A BRIGHTER FUTURE</h2>
It is no secret that the automotive world is undergoing a major electric revolution – and Valeo sits at the very heart of it.
To reduce its carbon footprint, the European parc is being electrified through multiple initiatives – and by 2030, more than 30% of vehicles on the road are set to be electrified.
Many opportunities will appear in the aftermarket. New spare parts will be equipped in Hybrid and Electric vehicles, and a challenge such as accessing parts is going to be a top priority for actors working in the IAM.
The two domains that will be most impacted by electrification are Powertrain and Thermal Management. Valeo has already made huge advancements in both areas.
<ol><li>With the aim of providing more sustainable mobility solutions for the drivers of tomorrow, Automotive Powertrains are being completely overhauled. Valeo’s recent acquisition of Siemens eAutomotive has strengthened its position as the world leader in electrification. Valeo boasts a full range of low and high voltage electric powertrain solutions.</li>
	<li>In brand new vehicles, Thermal Management Systems control the temperature of both the cabin and the battery. 
	Once again, Valeo is an OE leader thanks to innovative thermal solutions invented for ICE, Hybrid, and Electric vehicles. Correctly functioning thermal management systems of electric and hybrid vehicles are essential in ensuring High Voltage Components function safely. This happens by cooling or heating High Voltage components, but also by ensuring that High Voltage batteries maintain an optimal temperature range – and with it, have a longer lifetime.</li>
</ol>By offering the aftermarket these new technologies for electrified vehicles, Valeo is helping steer the ongoing electric revolution. This strategy began in 2020, with the launch of the iBSG (Integrated Belt-driven Starter Generator) for Mild Hybrid Technologies, which was the very first one on the market.
This was soon followed in 2022 by the introduction of the DWC DMFs – technology that was recognized as hugely innovative in helping reduce the noise, vibration, and harshness associated with the start-stop mechanism of hybrid vehicles.
The most recent aftermarket innovation in electrification involves the launch of electric compressors — which are one of the key products in thermal management systems. 
By the end of 2023, Valeo will be launching new High Voltage components, including powertrain products such as inverters, OBCs (On Board Chargers), and eDrives. Thermal Management components that ensure the correct functioning of the battery (with chillers and battery blowers) will also be launched.
In addition to new product launches, Valeo offers a technical support program that includes fitting instructions, live training sessions, webinars, interactive presentations, and videos from the Valeo Tech@ssist free Online Technical web platform. This is available in more than eight languages.
Valeo is committed to the active development of its portfolio for Hybrid and Electric vehicles, including traditional and new product technologies. Valeo has already developed 4,500 maintenance parts.
The ambition is to reach 6,000 parts by the end of 2023.
