Symptoms of a faulty Alternators in a vehicles

The purpose of the alternators is to charge the battery and run the electrical components in the vehicle. The location of the alternators differs from one and another vehicle maker. In some vehicles, alternators are placed in front of the engine & in some vehicles it is placed in the behind the engine. The average life expectancy of the alternators is 150000 Km to 250000 Km.
Let's understand the basic symptoms of bad alternators.

1. Warning Light in the dashboard

Basically,  When there is a problem with the alternators in a vehicle,  the dashboard display shows the warning light by means of battery or Alternators  or Generators symbols, in this situation it's recommended to check the alternators.

2. Hard noises or squealing noise

If we are  able to hear the grinding noise, this could be the chance that the lifespan of an alternator bearing is gone and the bearing should be replaced immediately. If we hear a squealing noise, we should look into the serpentine belt. A bad serpentine belt can be the reason why alternators are not working properly, a worn belt has less traction to rotate the alternators.

3. Headlight Problems

During the night time travel , we could notice that the headlights are dim and also we could see flickering of the headlights like off & on. It is also an indicator that the alternator is in bad condition so that current is not properly generated.

4. Engine Stalling

While driving the vehicles there is a chances of sudden ignition off and there is no proper response after several starts, it may be that the required power is not coming to the engine due to less generated current in the vehicles , so this could be the bad alternator performance.

5. Accessory failure

There is a possibility that due to the  less current generation from the alternator all the accessory components fail continuously , this could be the bad alternator performances.

6. Dead Battery

There is a certain moment that when we would like to ignite the engine but it wont respond due to dead batteries, the batteries are getting dead frequently, and one of the reasons for the dead batteries is the bad alternator condition.

The above are the common symptoms of faulty alternators, it is recommended to contact the nearest technician when these symptoms occur.
